Honda Hybrid Scooter Prototype

Now this looks like a lot of fun. Honda is quickly becoming the dominant force in hybrid engine products; and their newest project (to go along with their all-electric scooter) is a hybrid scooter. It is only is prototype form at the moment but all signs point to an internal combustion engine combined with an electric motor. It promises 60% more fuel efficiency than other comparably sized scooters and adds only 10 kg of extra bulk. As in most hybrids, the engine is used when cruising, while the electric motor assist gives low emission starts, and regenerative breaking.

Thanks to Gizmodo for the tip.

  • That's cool. When I was in Bermuda we rode scooters the whole time. Non-locals are not allowed to rent cars -- not that you would want to. A scooter was a great way to jet around from beach to beach. The only drawback was the pollution from all these little gas scooters zipping around everywhere. A hybrid model is a step in the right direction.
