Toilet Summit
Thailand to host loo summit
"Showing scant regard for the bottom line, Thailand says it'll improve public toilet hygiene standards as it prepares to host next year's world toilet summit.
The country is keen to be a worthy host of the World Toilet Expo and Public Toilet Forum.
Health officials say the quality of a country's toilets is an important issue on the international stage.
"Toilets are very important for the country's image in the eyes of visitors," Somyos Chareonsak told the Associated Press.
In an effort to sniff out those that aren't up to scratch, health officials plan to inspect public toilets at schools, restaurants and tourist venues.
Everything you do, and possibly don't, need to know about loo technology will be on display when the conference opens next May.
Topics to be flushed out include toilet design and technology, toilet management and hygiene and energy-saving measures.
The summit, organised by the World Toilet Organisation, was held in 2001 in Singapore.
China, notorious for its odorous and unhygienic public toilets, hosted the same event last year."
Hopefully, the use of waterless and/or composting toilets will be on the agenda.
