Looking for something new (and organic) to take to your next dinner party? Then try one of these four top-rated organic wines that are ready to drink now...

1. Barbera del Monferrato Minola 2001 (Italy, red)
This wine comes from Piedmont, the foothills of the Italian Alps. It shows well-balanced cherry and tobacco aromas, with a satisfying presence of lively sweet fruit on the palate with a juicy steak-loving structure tannic structure on the finish.

2. Albet i Noya Xarello Classic 2004 (Spain, white)
The Xarello grape is the classic grape grown in this area for the production of Cava, the sparkling wine of Spain. It's jasmine aroma and crispy lime acidity would be a perfect partner to the various seafood dishes of the area.

3. Nativa Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 (Chile, red)
Black currant and menthol aromas abound on the nose. An inky concentrated wine from very ripe grapes...try it with lamb!

4. Soave Borgoletto 2003 (Italy, white)
Made from the Garganega grape, this wine displays a generous fruity style with some floral overtones, finishing with a hearty zing of acidity to bring it into balance. A nuance of clove and some minerality is also present.

  • Don't forget to check for food miles. The Chilean wine has a long way to come to Europe, and the Italian has a long way to go to the US.
    The emissions from airlifting your wine will outweigh the benefits we gain from its organicness.
    Buying within your region means it is more likely to be shipped or driven than air-hauled.
    Think beyond the label!
