Idling And The City
The city of Toronto is making a hullabaloo about cracking down on idling drivers this sweaty summer. And for good reason.
• Amount of greenhouse gas emissions spewed by idling vehicles in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) every year: 214,020 tonnes • Number of trees needed to absorb the air pollution resulting from GTA drivers idling five minutes a day for one year: 30 million • Amount of fuel wasted by idling in the GTA per year: 90,686,277 litres • Number of people smog is expected to kill prematurely in Toronto this year: 5,800
And just think, this is pretty much going on in every city in the world.
