Good Zoos, Bad Zoos

A new report gave passing marks to only 4 of 16 Ontario Zoos. Not very good. The audit looked at the treatment of animals and public safety.

The following zoos passed the audit: Toronto Zoo (Toronto) Jungle Cat World (Orono) Muskoka Wildlife Centre (Severn Bridge) Zooz Nature Park (Stevensville) All of the following zoos failed the audit: Bear Creek Exotic Wildlife Sanctuary (Barrie) Bergerons Exotic Animal Sanctuary (Picton) Bowmanville Zoo (Bowmanville) Colasantis Tropical Gardens (Ruthven) Elmvale Jungle Zoo (Elmvale) Greenview Aviaries Park and Zoo (Ridgetown) Killman Zoo (Caledonia) Lickety-Split Ranch and Zoo (London) Northwood Buffalo and Exotic Animal Ranch (Seagrave) Papanack Park Zoo (Wendover) Pineridge Zoo (Grand Bend) Twin Valley Zoo (Brantford) From CCN Matthews

This is very disappointing to anyone living in Ontario. You trust that a zoo is treating its animals humanely (I am not going to even get into the whole “animals & zoos” issue right now) and providing a safe environment for its visitors. Apparently this is not the case.

The photo is of my son on a trip to the Bowmanville Zoo. There was a goat walking around “loose.” Is this normal? Now I wonder.
