Adbusters' Buy Nothing Day
It’s that time of year again - the day we buy…nothing? That’s right, non-profit organization Adbusters is making its annual pitch for all of us to buy nothing this Friday (November 25), the day after Thanksgiving, the official kickoff of the 2005 holiday shopping season in the U.S.
“For 24 hours, millions of people around the world do not participate…We pause. We make a small choice not to shop. We shrink our footprint and gain some calm. Together we say: enough is enough. And we help build this movement to rethink our unsustainable course.”
Yes, this is considered a radical for some reason. But, as Lifehacker put it, you have to be amazed at how they turn accepted norms in our consumer culture right on their heads.
