Solar-Powered Overhead Projector Will Help Teach Reading
This is a great example of using green-technology to do good.
A solar-powered overhead projector will help teach reading in poor, rural African and Asian communities without electricity, the non-profit group that invented it said. The “kinkajou” projects text and images on a wall. It has been tested successfully in 45 villages in Mali and organizers hope to introduce the projector in India and Bangladesh, according to Design that Matters (DtM), a non-profit group associated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
The projector is built to withstand some rough handling and costs only about $50. A roll of microfilm, which can hold about 10,000 pages, costs another $10.
