We previously looked at free parking in Toronto for motorcycles and scooters on Greenthinkers.

And now, the City of Toronto is apparently considering giving free parking in the city to those who drive Smart cars and Hybrid cars as a way to encourage their use. A little incentive for people who are acting a little more green.

Whether it happens or not, it does sound like a good step. The savings from free parking would off-set some of the extra costs for a hybrid vehicle, thus making them more appealing. Of course, walking, riding a bike or taking transit is better for the environment but small steps are great.

I heard about this this morning on the radio while half asleep (I don’t think I was dreaming) and have not found anything on the web about it yet. Please post any links you find related to this proposal.
