Is Your Home A Toxic Dump?

Why are more and more of us getting cancer these days? There are of course so many factors to consider. But one issue that hasn’t gotten a lot of press is environmental toxins.
Though it may not readily come to mind, we are constantly exposed to chemicals and carcinogens that can affect our health and may effect our bodies in the future. Many popular household cleaning solutions contain harmful pollutants. Disposable dust cloths might seem handy, but as they are often soaked in cleaning solution, they are literally dripping with chemicals. And conventional dishwashing liquid and detergent is also full of nasty chemicals. Potential risks from exposure to them includes central nervous system disorders, damage to the immune system, respiratory disturbances, and headaches.
That’s right, the things we use to make our homes cleaner may be bad for our health. And with that in mind, this month’s David Suzuki’s newsletter is all about household pollutants - and what we can do about it.
