Big Shrimpy Pet Beds

Big Shrimpy emphasizes manufacturing products that reduce the amount of natural resources withdrawn from the Earth. They do this by (1) where possible, salvaging waste materials from other industries to use in their products, thus diverting waste from landfills and reducing their demand for new raw materials and (2) designing products to have a longer than average life, again reducing the need for new raw materials.

Big Shrimpy “packages” these environmentally friendly characteristics in products that are functional and comfortable for pets but that also have features useful to pet owners, such as easy washablity.

Their goal is that 70% of annual sales revenue will be from products containing at least 50% recycled materials. A nice goal. So check out these Nest Beds - the inner bolster and cushion are actually filled with recycled fleece scraps! That’s right, Big Shrimpy (that’s some name…) works with clothing manufacturers to utilize their waste fleece scraps.

When clothing manufacturers cut patterns from rolls of fleece, not all of the fleece is used. Over the course of production, this results in truckloads of fleece scraps unusable to the clothing manufacturers. The scraps are perfect for Big Shrimpy pet beds as the scraps are machine washable. Another benefit of the fleece scrap filling is that fleece is a lofty fabric, not just fluffed fibers. Fleece scraps make a substantial filling for the bed without breaking down like many other materials used to fill dog beds.
