The Paper Chase
The new David Suzuki Foundation newsletter is out and this month they’re talking business. And one of the biggest business myths going these days is the “paperless office.”
Although it’s common to find recycling blue boxes in workplaces (well, maybe not in St. Petersburg), there is a lot more we can do to conserve the environment at work:
1. You probably already look for the recycled logo on any paper you purchase, but that little recycling loop logo doesn’t tell the whole story. Check to see how much of the paper is made from post-consumer recycled content. The higher the percentage, the better. 100% post-consumer recycled paper is waste paper that has served its intended purpose and has been recycled into new paper.
2. Try outfitting your printers with an attachment called a duplexer, which allows double-sided printing. Not only will you save money, but your reports and documents will be thinner and lighter.
3. Fax machines remain indispensable for some companies. But new fee-based websites that allow you to send and receive fax messages as e-mail attachments and view them with the click of a mouse can be very useful. Say goodbye to a dedicated fax machine - your customers will never know the difference!
