Watts New?
Saw a neat little billboard PSA last night in downtown St. Petersburg.
It was a reminder to turn off the TV and VCR when you’re not watching them. The campaign called Watts on your Mind? seems to be directed at kids with some cartoon artwork. There is also a teacher section with lesson ideas.
They have a nice little list of 10 energy saving tips on their site as well:
1. Turn off the lights when you leave the room.
2. Turn off the computer at night and on weekends.
3. Recycle used paper. It takes 10 times as much energy to produce a new piece of paper than it does to make a copy on the second side.
4. Don’t leave the television on if you’re not watching it.
5. Make sure the VCR is turned off after you’ve finished watching a video.
6. Try to decide what you want from the refrigerator before you open the door because keeping the door open for a long time wastes energy.
7. Shut down computer games when you’re finished with them.
8. Unplug appliances such as toaster ovens and televisions when you go on vacation.
9. Keep your windows closed in the house if you’re using the air conditioner in the summer or the heater in the winter.
10. For more helpful hints, check out Fun Facts here on this site.
PSA’s like this in public spaces are great little reminders of the little, simple things everyone can do.
An intersting sidenote is that this billboard was in a lightbox (backlit box). I wonder if it is turned off when “not in use,” like they tell you to do with your TV, etc…
