World Fair Trade Day

fairtradeday_photo.gif World Fair Trade Day is an international celebration of Fair Trade internationally, with events organised worldwide.

World Fair Trade Day started as a European movement of over 2,000 World Shops (Fair Trade shops), working together through NEWS! Movements. In the words of the International Fair Trade Association (IFAT), Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers, especially in the South.

Fair Trade organizations (backed by consumers) are engaged actively in supporting producers, awareness raising and in campaigning for changes in the rules and practice of conventional international trade.

Happy Fair Trade Day (well, tomorow that is) everyone! And thanks to Treehugger for this spotlight.
