Greenthinkers Grill Week: Newfangled Paper Plates

seventhgenerationplates_photo.jpg The barbecue is out, the food is cooked and the condiments are on the table. But since you didn’t bring any plates with you to the beach, why not reach for something recycled or biodegradable.

Check out these recycled and biodegradable cups, plates, napkins and cutlery from Eco-Products. We also spotted these Seventh Generation recycled paper plates.

Sure, paper plates aren’t exactly the epitomy of ‘green’ but here’s a crazy statistic all the same - if every household in the U.S. replaced just one 40 count package of virgin fiber paper plates with 100% recycled ones, we could save:

  • 487,700 trees

  • 1.2 million cubic feet of landfill space, equal to 1,800 full garbage trucks,

  • 176 million gallons of water, a year’s supply for 1,300 families of four

  • 29,900 pounds of pollution
