As promised, we’ll be looking at a few fun summer items this week in the barbecue category. That’s right, it’s Greenthinkers Grill Week.

First up, the Sierra Club-approved Sport Solar Oven. This low-cost, long-lasting unit is designed to be weather resistant and energy efficient. It reaches temperatures of 210-265 degrees (F) without reflectors and up to 350 degrees (F) with reflectors when placed in direct sun.

To use, simply place the food in the pots provided, place the Sport facing the sun and forget it. The sun does the rest. Manufactured by the Solar Oven Society (SOS), a not-for-profit organization, the Sport cooks almost everything. Plus, it only weighs 10 pounds so it’s easy to carry around.
