Sub Pop Goes Renewable

subpoplogo_photo.gif Seattle-based Sub Pop Records, home to indie rock acts Red House Painters, Iron & Wine and The Postal Service (and former label for icons such as Nirvana, Soundgarden and Eric’s Trip) has just become the first record label to be entirely green-powered. That’s right, it has purchased enough Green-e certified Green Tags, also known as renewable energy credits, from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to equal 100 percent of the company’s energy use. To date, Sub Pop is the first Green-e certified record label in the United States.

Green Tags are created when wind power or other renewable energy is substituted for traditional power. The result is a shift away from our dependence on burning fossil fuel to produce electricity.
