According to Nutrition Action, with help from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, here are the 12 most contaminated fruits and vegetables:
- Strawberries (tie)
- Bell peppers (green and red) (tie)
- Spinach
- Cherries (U.S.)
- Peaches
- Cantaloupes (Mexican)
- Celery
- Apples
- Apricots
- Green beans
- Grapes (Chilean)
- Cucumbers
Of the 42 crops tested, the 12 listed above were the worst. If you buy these fruits, try to look for organically grown varieties, or at least wash them very well.
