WalMart Goes Solar?

According to CNET News, retail giant Wal-Mart recently put out a request for proposal (RFP) last month to solar electric suppliers as part of a long-term plan to convert to renewable energy sources. And, according to the piece, although the announcement may not result in any investment right away, the move is a key indicator of growing corporate interest in sustainable practices and technologies. Yay.
To put the size of this project in perspective…
The solar system currently being installed at Google headquarters in California—the largest single corporate solar installation in history—is 1.6 MW, about 1/60th the size.
And Wal-Mart has actually already set up two experimental stores in the U.S. that are already using renewable power sources, including solar and wind.
