IDS-07: Benjamin Moore ECOspec Paint

ecospec_photo.jpg As ApartmentTherapy writes, the problem with paints is that they are made up of lots of chemicals that are not healthy for us or our environment. Disposal problems aside, the biggest issue for users is actually breathing in VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) during and after painting.

Fortunately there are an increasing number low-VOC paints available that off-gas less and are less harmful for you and the environment. Benjamin Moore’s ECOSpec line is one of them and they had a booth at the Interior Design Show.

The ECOSpec paint formula contains no solvents which release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air. That’s right, it’s a low odor, low VOC, 100% acrylic latex paint that comes in flat, egg-shell and semi gloss finishes. The price is said to be about 10%-20% more than regular paint but it is an ideal choice for jobs where environmental concerns exist (which is just about every job, no?) and when there is a desire to reduce job site downtime (hospitals, schools, and so on).

ECOSpec has been certified by both the GREENGUARD and Green Seal.

Nice booth too.
