A Good Overview of Radiant Floor Heating With Solar Hot Water System

Via The Sietch (a very RSS Feed-worthy blog, IMHO):

Here he helps a couple and his readers understand radiant heat and solar hot H2O. Great pictures and descriptions on the post:

Radiant Thick and Thin Pourings.

I hope to build my own home and using radiant heat is a no-brainer in my cold northeastern US climate. The thermal mass stores the heat and slowly, and efficiently, gives it off (I type as my forced hot air heat blasts in the background). This form of heating is great because of the multiple efficiencies you can add to heat the water used in the system:

Solar pre-heat On-demand hot water heater Woodstove pre-heat

And I imagine, if you are building new, it would be pretty easy to set up “heating zones” in your home, to limit the heating of unused areas, especially at night when sleeping.

Go check his take over at The Sietch Blog, and become a regular reader like I have.
