Aqus Greywater System

aqus.jpg The folks at Path to Freedom have a wonderful online storefront for goods to improve the sustainability of your home and your life. A great product that I saw today was an under the sink greywater recycling system: Aqus Greywater System.

It can be installed in 1-2 hours under your bathroom sink. It has a storage tank for the water you use to brush your teeth and wash your hands, and uses this water to flush the toilet - saving thousands of gallons of fresh water over the course of a year.

Tucked inside the vanity below the sink, the AQUS™ reservoir works in conjunction with standard lavatory pipes and holds up to 5 ½ gallons of water from the sink.

Inside the toilet tank, the AQUS™ fill control unit keeps fresh water from filling the tank by holding the ball cock in the off position. That allows water held in the reservoir under the sink to fill the toilet tank. A water hose connects the reservoir to the fill control unit, using gravity, water pressure and a small electrical pump to move water from the vanity to the toilet.

I’ve always thought that it was wasteful to use perfectly drinkable water down the toilet. Of course the way to waste no water each year is with a composting toilet (PTF offers a line of those as well). This product seems like a good option for those situations that it is not feasible.
