Green Moving Tips

A reader contacted us last week to ask about her upcoming move annd how she can make it more green. An excellent question. And to that end, we turn this post over to Ana Shepard from the Times Online for her top tips on making your move more green:
Give yourself enough time to reduce and re-use. The earlier you start, the better chance you have to be able to find new homes or recycling centres for all your unwanted stuff.
At the last minute, get in touch with friends in your area who might like your perishable food stuffs that won;t be making the move with you.
Save and store your bubblewrap, cardboard boxes, padded envelopes and other materials to help wrap up valuables. Otherwise you’re contributing to the use of loads of virgin materials.
Instead of buying new moving boxes, borrow from friends and get old ones from supermarkets and licquor stores.
It is greener (and less stressful) to hire movers to do one trip in their truck rather than using your own vehicle to do several.
When you move in, think about signing up with a green power utility.
