Michael Shuman Is Going Local

goinglocal_photo.JPG

CBC Radio’s Metro Morning host Andy Barrie had a fascinating conversation this morning with Michael Shuman, author of Going Local: Creating Self-Reliant Communities in a Global Age.

‘Going Local’ details how communities are regaining control over their economies by employing three new kinds of strategies: investing in locally owned businesses and organizations, focusing on import-replacing rather than export-led development, and asking upper governments to eliminate subsidies and tax and trade laws that disempower communities. The book challenges its readers to rethink views about globalization and the local.

And in today’s interview (RealPlayer audio link), Barrie concentrated his questions on a topic of much interest on our site - food. A great chat.
