Rebecca Ward's Recycled Jewellery

Rebecca Ward is a Brisbane-based jeweller with a contemporary, and green, approach to jewellery. Through the use of both traditional and contemporary materials, like recycled glass and materials washed up from the ocean, her jewellery works really do use the 3 R’s.

For example, in her Sea Jewels collection, Rebecca Ward says, “These works grew from an unfinished bird-bath mosaic I began some time ago using broken glass off-cuts collected from here and there. After many years of collecting beach glass, I decided to manufacture my own from the pieces of mosaic I had cut. I love the way that years of tumbling in sand and sea wears away the drunken edges of glass so that it resembles something that is neither synthetic nor wholly natural. The fact that I have reduced this process to a few nights of tumbling in a rubber barrel attached to an electric motor can be our little secret! Sshhh…”
