TerraCycles's Worm Poop And Lawsuit
TerraCycle produces all-natural, eco-friendly plant food that is packaged in used plastic soda bottles. TerraCycle Plant Food is in fact said to be the first mass-produced consumer product to have a negative environmental footprint.

It’s worm poop! Worms consume dead plant matter, and in doing so, they excrete a natural fertilizer known as castings. That worm castings - actually worm poop - provide food for the plants that, in turn, will eventually become more dead plant matter for the worms. Pretty simple stuff - it truly is an ideal, natural fertilizer, rich in nitrate nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
TerraCycle collects its used soda bottles by conducting environmental fundraisers at elementary schools across the United States, and by partnering with numerous recycling centers around the country.
All good news so far. But we must mention that, according to Consumerist, TerraCycle is being sued for trademark infringement and false advertising by the manufacturers of MiracleGro.
The complaint stems from TerraCycle’s use of the colors yellow and green in their packaging. TerraCycle sells organic liquefied “worm poop” packaged in donated plastic soda bottles. Scott’s is a $2.7 billion dollar company, according to the Wall Street Journal…The whole lawsuit seems rather silly to us. Would consumers really think that MiracleGro would sell something labeled “Worm Poop” in what is quite obviously an old Sprite bottle? TerraCycle is claiming that the lawsuit is groundless because so many other manufacturers use yellow and green in their packaging.
