Peat Power

CBC News reports today that a newsprint mill in Newfoundland will burn peat this summer as a potential source of fuel.

Corner Brook Pulp and Paper is trying to move away from burning bunker C oil, both for environmental and financial reasons. The cost of bunker fuel has nearly doubled in the past two years…Corner Brook Pulp and Paper has been exploring alternatives to oil consumption. It already burns bark, and had given serious consideration to burning used automobile tires before abandoning the plan last year.
