WiTricity
According to news reports today, researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a wireless electricity called “WiTricity” that can transmit electricity wirelessly.
In a proof of concept demonstration of the technology MIT researchers were able to light a 60W light bulb from a power source seven feet away with no physical connection between the source and the lamp. The potential of this breakthrough is endless as cellphones and other gadgets could get their power without actually having to be plugged in.
The folks at MIT promise this “magnetic coupling” has a low range and is safe for humans and other living things. I guess we’ll see.
