Live Earth Minute By Minute (Part 4)

The live blogging of Live Earth continues…

4:55pm ET Update: Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) always makes us think of Rushmore. And that’s not a bad thing. He’s doing his thing in Hamburg as Akon is being completely forgettable in NYC and D2 is being very loud and flashy in Rio.

5:00pm ET Update: The Limey is on stage preaching. And then he gives way to Madonna who performs her Live Earth song first up, with a choir behind her.

7:30pm ET Update: Macy Gray and Kelly Clarkson are on stage simultaneously, in their respective cities on their respective stages. I think that’s as good a signal as any to go grab something to eat.

8:15pm ET Update: With Bon Jovi bonjoviing in NYC, Rio was still the stage to watch (as it is quickly turning into the best show of the night, Macy Gray aside). While I don’t understand the Portuguese crowd announcements or the Earth-friendly messages, we really got a kick out of the set put on by a band that might have been these fellas.

8:55pm ET Update: Lenny Kravitz, as puffed out as he may be, still does a great rendition of “Let Love Rule”.

9:10pm ET Update: Smashing Pumpkins! Sorry to see no James Iha or D’Arcy on stage with them but it’s still great to see Billy “Pain” Corgan again. But why is he dressed like Beetlejuice? Great, great set.

9:20pm ET Update: And so ends the live blog - how can you top the Smashing Pumpkins reuniting? Enjoy the rest of the night everybody, happy Live Earth Day!
