Top 5 Green Nursery Tips: Cloth Diapers

We know, we knopw, cloth diapers are nothing new. And we know, we know, they aren’t as easy to use as the disposable ones. But really, honest, there are some newfangled cloth diapers on the market that are pretty fantastic.

And don’t listen to those naysayers out there who say all the water needed to wash cloth diapers negates their environmental benefit. Even when you add up the water use, cloth diapers are still a more enviro-friendly option as they don’t clog up landfills (check out what they do with ours in our green bin) or contain harmful chemicals in the plastic liner and absorbent materials.

To start, maybe just try to use them when you’re hanging out with baby at home?

As a sidenote, in Toronto diapers can get tossed in the city’s green bins. The plastic gets separated out, then shipped off to landfill while the cotton batting gets composted. Better than nothing.
