Local GT: Greenbridge's Cradle-To-Cradle Neighbourhood

greenbridge_photos.jpg

Designed by William McDonough + Partners, Chapel Hill North Carolina’s Greenbridge is striving to be the first cradle-to-cradle residential-retail project in the United States.

Greenbridge is working at following “smart growth” principles of revitalizing town centers, rather than gobbling up farms and forestlands and contributing to urban sprawl. Close to mass transit systems and urban infrastructure, Greenbridge residents will be able to take one of the city’s hybrid buses, walk, or ride bicycles as an alternate mode of transportation. Also, the buildings themselves follow the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards for energy efficient practices; such as water conservation, indoor air quality, and sustainable sites. Green roofs included!
