Top 5 Green Toothbrush Tips: Radius Source

radiussource_photos.jpg

As the program we highlighted yesterday is currently in the shop for repairs, we thought we’d come back today with one that is up and running - Radius.

Radius, founded on the little island of Tortola in the BVI, offers a cool toothbrush with a reusable and renewable resource-made handle and replacable head - Radius Source.

We’re talking a head made from wood fiber blended with PLA (a plastic derived entirely from Nebraska maize) and replaceable heads that consume 1/5 the material of standard toothbrushes.

But what of the waste versus shipping debate? Well, Radius reports that the calculation of the energy cost of energy used in recycling toothbrushes via a shipping service is being updated and will be back on their website shortly. We look forward to those results.

But beyond that, Radius is committed to making environmentally friendly products. Their rules are:

  • Make your own toothbrushes and know how much energy is expended on them.

  • Control the material inputs to ensure that your products contain pure and responsibly resourced materials.

  • Use renewable resource materials for toothbrush handles.

  • Make products that last a long time.
