Ecotravel.com is a new internet magazine and community with the purpose of offering its readers insightful information about travel destinations, and education about issues in tourism.

Ecotravel and ecotourism are words used a lot today. The problem is creating a clear definition of exactly what it means to be an ecotraveler. At Ecotravel.com we believe that these words are not specific to a destination or an activity but it is a way of thinking about travel in the context of issues facing a specific area. For example, it may seem “eco” to visit a national park in Costa Rica, but has any thought been given to where your tourist dollars are going? Is the money being spent to maintain the park or to improve the conditions of the local people? These, and others, are important questions to ask when planning a trip. In the end, Ecotravel becomes a consciousness of the impact of travel that forces us to question our behavior.
