CES: ZPower

Another company working green at CES this year is ZPower, which has developed a battery technology that it hopes will replace the lithium-ion batteries that power today’s laptops and cell phones. And they’re already on their way - ZPower’s silver-zinc batteries will show up in some laptops as early as this summer. And maybe cell phones soon after that.

Lithium-ion batteries are recyclable but contain little recoverable material. A ZPower battery is more environmentally friendly because its key components are recyclable and reusable. Plus, their robust recycling infrastructure also allows ZPower to reduce the cost of silver for its batteries by as much as 85%. They claim the capacity should be 20-30% higher than lithium-ion laptop batteries.
