NAIAS: Chrysler Concepts
Our coverage of NAIAS 2008 rolls on. And this is the part where we point to two Chrysler concepts that are interesting but will probably never see the light of day.
The ‘stylish green’ model is the Jeep Renegade concept. With a 40-mile lithium-ion battery pack and a range extending 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder BLUETEC diesel engine, the Jeep Renegade concept boasts a 400-mile range.
The Chrysler ecoVoyager is a minivan of the future, with wheels driven by an electric motor, with power primarily supplied by a lithium-ion battery pack capable of satisfying a consumer’s typical daily commute of less than 40 miles. The ecoVoyager also takes advantage of a range extender – in this case, a small, advanced hydrogen fuel cell.
And finally, the Dodge ZEO (Zero Emissions Operation) is a coupe with a 64-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack powers the electric motor. But as this is the most concept-y of the bunch, there isn’t even any mention in the literature as to how the battery re-charges. Don’t hold your breath, we won’t be seeing a ZEO on the lot anytime soon.
