CIAS: Mazda's New E-Paint

The Canadian International Auto Show kicked off in earnest this past Friday, and it’s no different from the slew of others over the past year - it’s gone green. And Greenthinkers is walking the floor!
Just about every major auto maker’s display features insight into their environmental initiatives. And since we’ve exhausted every recent concept car angle, let’s look at those real life initiatives and see what they’re all about, shall we?
First up, the scientists and engineers at Mazda’s Technical Research Center in Hirosima have developed a new process that reduces the cost of painting a new vehicle by an astonishing 20%. The same process also cuts the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by 45% and of CO2 by 6 to 15% - also improving paint quality while reducing energy consumption. The multi-part process includes the paint and the manner in which it is applied.
