Local GT: Hollywood North Going Carbon Neutral
On the heels of Playback’s green issue, Vancouver Film Studios has gone carbon neutral. It is said to be Canada’s first soundstage facility to have done so, in part to attract green Hollywood productions.
The declaration, to be announced Monday, follows a year-long initiative that involved studio-wide recycling, conversion to energy-efficient lighting and computers that utilize the sleep mode, replacement of plasma screens with LCD technology, reduced heating in vacant sound stages and composting of food waste. The company also tries to use carbon-neutral suppliers, such as Harbour Air, whenever possible. The move to carbon-neutral status falls in line with an industry-wide initiative to clean up the film and television business.
