Steve Nash & Nike Talk Trash

All-Star NBA point guard Steve Nash now has another accolade after his name - environmentalist. His new sneaker, the Nike Trash Talk, is the first performance basketball shoe made from manufacturing waste.
Check out the details:
The upper is pieced together from leather and synthetic leather waste from the factory floor using zig-zag stitching.
The mid-sole uses scrap-ground foam from factory production.
The outsole uses environmentally-preferred rubber that reduces toxics and incorporates Nike Grind material from footwear outsole manufacturing waste.
It will be packaged in a fully recycled cardboard shoe box.
What’s Nike Grind you ask? In 1993 Nike launched a recycling program which collects worn-out athletic shoes (and waste from their manufacturing process) and recycles them into usable material they call Nike Grind (rubber from the outsole, foam from the midsole and fabric from the upper). We also collect and recycle material left over from footwear manufacturing. Nike Grind is then used in their products and also in sports surfaces like basketball courts, soccer turf and playgrounds. Pretty cool.
