Book Industry Getting Greener?

“Environmental Trends and Climate Impacts” is an 86-page summary, printed on 50 percent post-consumer recycled paper and full of charts about fiber, endangered forests and carbon footprints. The news: The book world, which uses up more than 1.5 million metric tons of paper each year, is steadily, if not entirely, finding ways to make production greener.

Really?

Maybe. Here’s another piece about the same thing

U.S. publishers are gradually going green, but Canada remains the book industry leader when it comes to forest-friendly book production, a comparison of recent studies in each country indicates. Of those surveyed, slightly more than 50 per cent per cent of U.S. publishers have set goals for increased use of recycled paper…By contrast, 115 Canadian publishers, accounting for between 60 and 75 per cent of the market here, have implemented ecologically improved paper-purchasing policies…
