Charity Water

Buy a virtual bottle of Charity Water (no plastic required but for your credit card) and 100% of your tax-deductible donation will go towards funding freshwater well projects in Africa.

Ignoring the : in their name, Charity is a nonprofit organization stimulating greater global awareness about extreme poverty, educating the public, and provoking compassionate and intelligent giving. And they’ve chosen water as their first project. Why? Simple. Right now, 1.1 Billion people on the planet don’t have access to safe, clean drinking water. That’s one in six of us. And unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation causes 80% of all sickness and disease, and kills more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.

Since Charity was founded and began activity in August 2006, they have funded the construction of more than 250 wells that, when completed, will provide clean drinking water to 150,000 people. Good on them.

Here’s a fun stat: An average American uses 150 gallons of water each day to cook, clean and drink. A person in the developing world struggles to find 5.
