LA To Vegas By Electric Train?

What’s all this talk about a high-speed electric train from LA to Las Vegas? Well, let’s find out.

First up, there’s the Maglev Project. The California-Nevada Interstate Maglev project is proposing the construction of a 269 mile Maglev train line from Anaheim, California to Las Vegas, Nevada, shuttling excited gamblers from Disneyland to Las Vegas at up to 300mph.

And secondly, a newcomer to the race is a less, expensive diesel-electric alternative dubbed Desert Xpress. Reports say this one would cost in the neighbourhood of $3-5 billion to construct, compared to the $12 billion estimated for Maglev. The other difference is that Desert XPress’ origin would be Victorville, California.

High-speed trains in North America? It’s about time.
