Newman's Own...Wine

newmansownchardonnay_photos.gif

Film legend Paul Newman and his Newman’s Own food company has just started selling two California wines, a (2006) Chardonnay and a (2006) Cabernet Sauvignon.

According to bizjournals, Newman’s Own, founded by Newman and partner A.E. Hotchner in 1982, is working with St. Helena-based Rebel Wine Co. on the project. Rebel Wine is a two-year-old joint venture between Three Thieves and St. Helena’s Trinchero Family Estates, one of the largest wine producers in the Bay Area, with between 9 million and 10 million cases of wine produced annually.

All after-tax profits will go to charity. Since its founding, Newman’s Own has given over $200M to untold deserving organizations.

But wait, where’s the Greenthinkers angle? Well, we heard this was going to be a line of organic wine. Is it? We have yet to see this product hit our local shelves. We’ll wait and see if this becomes the biggest selling organic wine around. We’ll wait and see.
