Dean Kamen, creator of the Segway, is back with another invention. And this time he has stepped it up a notch. He’s not just saving our legs from getting tired, he’s saving the world.

The Slingshot is a water purifier that uses vapor compression distillation to pull water out of anything remotely wet while using just 2% of the power of current alternatives. It can supply 1,000 liters of fresh water a day from nothing more than ditchwater. And the Sligshot’s companion power generator will actually run on pretty much anything that burns, including cow manure. Based on a Stirling Engine, one of the more efficient that we know of, it produces a constant output of one Kilowatt (enough to power 70 light bulbs).
