Top 5 Green Spring Cleaning Products: Your Cupboard

Feel like going a little bit DIY this spring? In David Suzuki Foundation’s most recent newsletter, they show us how to make our own green cleaning products.

There are thankfully lots of eco-friendly cleaning products on the shelves these days, but you can actually make your own from ordinary stuff around the house pretty easily. As they say, “Why use toxic chemicals when a few basic ingredients whipped up right in your own home will make enough stuff to safely clean practically anything?”

Here are some of the readily available ingredients…

  • Baking Soda, deodorizes, softens water, scours.

  • Borax, disinfects, cleans and deodorizes

  • White Vinegar, a grease-cutting acid that you can eat

  • Lemon Juice, another edible grease-cutting acid with a pleasant scent

And remember, if you’re buying a product for cleaning around the home (no matter how green it says it is), make sure you still read those labels carefully!
