Green Your Hallowe'en

Remember when we used to send out tips on how to ‘green’ your different holidays? Yeah, that was fun. We even did Hallowe’en last year.

The great thing is, those tips never get old. But we’re doing a whole new list this year just for fun. So here are ten easy ideas for making your spooky day more eco-conscious, via The Star.

  • Raid closets for costumes or host a swap rather than buying new.

  • Use pillowcases, buckets or cloth bags to collect candy.

  • Consider handing out unconventional treats, such as bubbles, pencils or tea bags. If purchasing candy, look into organic or local options.

  • Look for treats with recyclable packaging.

  • Reuse your decorations.

  • Consider solar or LED lights.

  • Use natural items, like branches, pumpkins and apples, for decorations and compost them after the holiday.

  • Walk or carpool when trick-or-treating.

  • Give kids a battery-free flashlight powered by shaking to light their Halloween night.

  • Opt for fewer, better quality treats and decorations.

Happy Hallowe’en everyone!
