the best Christmas gift I ever got for my husband -the "thou shalt not drive cycling maniac"- was a section of bike path. I forget what the unit was -.1 mile, perhaps. But I figured out the budget, figures for the cost of the path came from the Dept. of Natural Resources.... and I bought as much as we could afford. He was thrilled -and every once in a while we have to go out to his little stretch of the path. He's very gracious about letting other people use it too ;)

That's a great story Andrea. What a great gift.
It reminds me of a gift I got (not to praise my own gift-giving or anything like that) for my parents many years ago - a section of the Trans Canada Trail, a recreation trail that will one day stretch the whole length of Canada (East to West). The gift helped the creation of the trail and made a piece of it our own (symbolically, at least). Win-win, if you ask me.
